How the EU Works: Latin American Young Leaders Training

The Centre for European Studies welcomed a group of over 30 young Latin American political leaders on the week of November 11th. As part of two week programme organized with the support our Spanish member foundation, FAES, the participants spent a week in Brussels learning about the European institutions and its mechanisms. Economic freedom, social policy and development, decentralization and efficient public management, globalization and economic integration and the strengthening of democratic institutions were some of the topics they discussed with EPP leaders. Among the senior figures they had the opportunity to meet were EPP and CES President Wilfried Martens, MEPs Pablo Arias, Pablo Zalba and José Ignacio Salafranca, as well as EPP Secretary General Antonio López-Istúriz and Rodrigo Rivera, the Colombian ambassador to the EU. They also met with EPP and CES policy advisors and communications experts, who led workshops on transnational party politics.
